Finally, blog submission one is complete :)
Ms. Zhang has commented on my last post, giving me suggestions on what i should and shouldn't do. So basically, all i need to do is remove some of the variables that i was planning to use. Thats a good idea, seeing as id probably get so confused, which would be reflected in my results. Also, it means i have less "controlling of variables" to do haha.
But i guess ill just wait for my mark sheet. That should give me some more detail as to where i can improve the experiment. Hopefully i dont lose too many marks for unoriginality, because im pretty sure other people will be conducting an experiment similiar to mine!
However, my experiment has been approved and ready for finalisation of the method!

The Experiment
Okay, so FINALLY thanks to help of friends, family and my athletics coach, Ive come to a decision on my experiment. I have chosen to follow my idea of seed germination + plant growth when plants are watered with different substances. Here's how I'm going to do it:
I'm going to control the germination of 4 seeds (most likely pea seeds), planting them all in foam cups in the same soil. They will then all be placed in a mini green house, that of which I'm planning to make with some help from my dad. I will then water each of the seeds with different substances. i.e. one with filtered water, one with tap water, one with salt water and one with water containing blue dye. I will monitor the growth of each of the seeds, seeing which substance if most effective when it comes to the speed of growth.
I want to run the experiment for around 2 weeks, so it gives the plants time to grow enough for me to see a difference. I will photograph the different stages of the growth every 3 days.
Independent Variable: The type of water i use
Dependant Variable: The growth of the plant.
Controlled Variables: The type of seed i use, the soil i use, the conditions which the seeds are put under.
ok, so thats basically it. I really like my idea as it wont take me too long, but i will discover something useful!!
thanks everyone for all your help! and thanks for following!

Narrowing it down
Okay, so in my last post i came up with a few more ideas, and thanks to help of steph, emily and emma (who doesn't have a blog but helped me in person), ive been able to narrow it down :) THANKS GUYS!!
so the top three are:
1. the cheeseburger change (yes, its a cool name...or so i thought): analysing the change of a maccas cheeseburger over 2 weeks, placing four or so under different conditions. does the change in conditions have any effect on the time it takes for the burger to grow mould?
2. hair dye regrowth (no cool name for this one...yet :) ) BUT, as i said before, getting people to dye their hair and investigate the effects of regrowth. And as em said, "all in the name of science". haha i like that.
3. please grow peas (too corny? get it. CORNy. haha) well, this is the one about the corn seeds growing once being watered with different liquids and recording the effects of it. BUT i had some suggestions to add a little twist and place one of the cups in a mini greenhouse, and see if that changes anything. My dads really good with all the plant growing and such, so he offerred to help me build the green house, and get me started with my germination. he also let me know that corn isn't in season at the moment, so i changed my experiment idea to peas.
OK, so since we need an idea + experiment set up plan by 5pm this wednesday, i really need some early help. like, tonightish? thanks so much everyone!!

some ideas
hello again :)
so the reason i have this blog is for my SRP- science research project.
My first set of blogging is due next week, and as ive been extremely busy with other subjects, ive just begun to blog. BUT that doesn't mean i haven't been constantly thinking about blogging. AND ive put alot of thought into my SRP. Ok, so here are some ideas ive come up with. I need to choose one, so your help is GREATLY appreciated :)
1. Analyse the effects of hair dye on the regrowth of human hair. This idea was suggested by my friend Victoria. However, Ms. Zhang said we would need at LEAST 30 people to do the testing on, so i thought id give it a miss. But if anyone thinks this is a really good idea, ill take your advice :)
2. Observe how long a macdonalds cheeseburger lasts for under different conditions. e.g, a dark cupboard, outside in the sun, in an airtight container, etc. ive put a link for a similiar experiment i found on the internet.
3. Plant corn seeds in 4 different cups and water them with different liquids. e.g. salt water, fresh water, filtered water etc. See which ones work the best, like how fast they grow, or which ones dont grow.
4. The effects water has on floorboards, carpet, tiles etc. I thought of this one because our house got flooded about a year ago, and all our floorboards and carpet got ruined, so we had to tear it up. But underneath there was all this mouldy stuff growing. I found that interesting...
5. How effective are so called "stain removing" products. Do they actually work? I want to test several products on oil stains on clothing.
Ok, so thats basically it for now. I may come up with some more later, but i hope not. Im already having trouble choosing!! your help would be greatly appreciated!!
thankyou so much!!
